Our Vision
The Department of Health and Exercise Science aspires to a level of scholarly distinction that is recognized nationally and internationally. We seek to develop and retain faculty members recognized for their research and contributions to the advancement of the field and to maintain the level of extramural funding that we have achieved over the past two decades. We aim to focus all of our course offerings around the theme of preventing chronic disease and disability and to enhance experiential learning for students.
Our Mission
Health and Exercise Science exists to advance the understanding of health and the prevention/treatment of chronic disease and physical disability. It is a place where exceptional teaching, innovative research and discovery, and the engagement of faculty and students within and outside the classroom are paramount. The department embraces both the teacher/scholar ideal and the University motto of Pro Humanitate.
