HES Internship Opportunities (HES 311): Fall 2012

The below table contains potential internship opportunities for Fall 2012.  If you are interested in serving as an intern, please contact the designated individual to discuss the opportunity. 

Please note: 

  1. Students must be current HES majors to receive credit for HES 311 (2 hours)
  2. Limited positions are available and they fill up quickly.  If you are interested in an internship, contact the designated individual as soon as possible.
  3. All internships require students to complete and document 90 hours of work/experiences.
  4. All HES 311 forms must be submitted to Dr. Katula

Physical activity, cognition, and complex mobility (LIFE-A)

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of a long-term physical activity program on cognition and complex mobility in older adults.  This study is an ancillary to the LIFE trial.

The major goal of this project is to provide definite evidence in the use of physical exercise to prevent physical and mobility disability in older persons.

TRAILS

This is a competitive renewal of the TRAILS grant that will follow runners injured in TRAILS to determine if and how they recover from injuries.

HELPS

HELPS is a medically directed, chronic disease prevention program designed to develop healthy lifestyle habits through state-of-the-art exercise and nutrition interventions for members for the WFU/Winston-Salem community.  Interns will gain experience in exercise testing as well as exercise prescription and monitoring of vital signs.

Rehabilitation for Breast Cancer Study

The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of conducting a comprehensive rehabilitation program for women immediately following the completion of their breast cancer treatment.

Weight Management Clinic

This Clinic is a comprehensive program that incorporates behavioral, nutrition, exercise, and medical components into patients weight loss plan.  Students will work primarily with the exercise physiologist, but will also have opportunities to get involved with the other components based on their interest.  This is located near Jonestown Road and Country Club Road.
